The Continuing Crisis

Considering my recent experiences, I found this article to be of more than passing interest.

Peace.

Well, now you've got my underwear in a bunch!!!!  First .... too many people call the amby when they have hang nails.  Second .... oh never mind.  ERs are for EMERGENCY treatment....

but there should be URGENT CARE facilities and WALK IN facilities available .... somehow ....

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is also why the bird flu thing is such the topic that it is. if it or something like it occurs, we're screwed because we're already in crisis. It's infuriating. I'm trying not to step up on my soap box (although what would be new about that? kinda hard not to be on one) but something needs to be done about the medical and insurance systems - like yesterday. Grrr!

Here's the problem, right here: "[The ER] provides care of variable and often unknown quality and depends on the willingness of doctors and hospitals to lose large amounts of money."

Our economic and political values focus on protecting profitability for health, insurance, and pharmaceutical industries rather than on delivering affordable care.  Our personal survival depends on our ability to contribute to the corporate bottom line.

If ever there was a "pro-life" issue, you'd think this would be it.
